Restructured CS-EET October 2026: Everything You Must Know
Complete guide to the new CSEET exam pattern, subjects, syllabus, key dates, eligibility, and preparation strategy — applicable from June 2026 onwards
The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) has completely overhauled the Company Secretary Executive Entrance Test (CSEET) — effective from June 2026 onwards. The old CSEET, which was a single-day, 2-hour online MCQ test from home, has been replaced by a far more rigorous, descriptive, and centre-based examination spread over four separate days. If you are planning to appear for the CS-EET October 2026 session, this guide gives you the full picture — what has changed, what to study, and how to prepare under the new structure.
Quick Answer — What Changed?
The restructured CSEET (effective June 2026) has 4 papers over 4 days, is offline / centre-based, carries 400 marks (up from 200), and introduces subjective/descriptive writing for 3 out of 4 papers. A brand-new paper — Fundamentals of Accounting — has been added. All 4 papers must be cleared in one sitting with no carry-forward or exemptions.

What Has Changed: Old CSEET vs New Restructured CSEET
The January 2026 session was the last session under the old remote-proctored MCQ format. From June 2026 — including the October 2026 session — all students must follow the new structure. Here is a side-by-side view of every major change.
Official ICSI Announcement
ICSI has officially notified the restructuring of CSEET effective from June 2026. The January 2026 session was the final session in the old remote-proctored online mode. Students who cleared CSEET in January 2026 get one year from the result date to register for CS Executive without paying an exemption fee. All new CSEET applicants from June 2026 onward must prepare under the revised structure.
❌ Old CSEET (Up to Jan 2026)
Remote-proctored · Online from home
✅ New CSEET (From June 2026)
Offline, centre-based · Written exam
⚠️ No Viva Voce in New Pattern: The 20-mark viva voce (oral presentation) that existed in the old CSEET has been completely removed. The new CSEET is a fully written examination — descriptive answers for Papers 1–3 and MCQ/OMR for Paper 4.
New Exam Structure: 4 Papers Over 4 Days
Each paper is conducted on a separate day, from 2:30 PM to 5:45 PM (including 15 minutes reading time before the 3-hour writing time begins). Students must appear for all four papers in one attempt — there is no provision to carry forward marks from one session to another.

- Objective MCQ format — 4 options per question
- No negative marking — attempt all questions
- Exam time: 2:30 PM – 5:45 PM (with 15 min reading time)
💡 Key Insight: Paper 4 (Business Laws & Management) is the only OMR/MCQ paper and carries no negative marking. Attempt every question in Paper 4 regardless of uncertainty. For Papers 1–3, structured writing with clear sub-headings, keywords, and well-organised answers is the differentiator.

Eligibility & Who Can Skip CSEET Entirely
The basic eligibility for CSEET has not changed — but knowing who is exempt can save you time and money.
✅ Eligible to Appear for CSEET
- Passed or appearing in Class 12 (10 2) or equivalent
- Indian nationals only
- Minimum age: 17 years
- Any stream — Commerce, Science, or Arts
⭐ CSEET Exempt — Direct CS Executive
- Graduates with minimum 50% marks
- Post-graduates (any discipline)
- CA Final passed students (ICAI)
- CMA Final passed students (ICMAI)
⚠️ Not Eligible for CSEET
- Non-Indian nationals or NRIs
- Students who haven't appeared in Class 12 yet
- Graduates with below 50% marks (must clear CSEET)
📌 Note for Commerce Graduates: If you are a commerce graduate with 50% or more marks, you can directly register for CS Executive — no CSEET required. CSEET is primarily the route for Class 12 pass-outs who want to start CS early without waiting for graduation.
Passing Criteria & Marking Scheme
The passing criteria is unchanged in principle but significantly harder in practice due to the higher total marks and the subjective format.
| Paper | Marks | Format | Minimum to Pass | Negative Marking |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Paper 1 — Business Communication | 100 | Subjective | 40 marks (40%) | No |
| Paper 2 — Fundamentals of Accounting | 100 | Subjective | 40 marks (40%) | No |
| Paper 3 — Economic & Business Environment | 100 | Subjective | 40 marks (40%) | No |
| Paper 4 — Business Laws & Management | 100 | OMR / MCQ | 40 marks (40%) | No |
| Total / Aggregate | 400 | — | 200 marks (50%) | — |
⚠️ Critical Rule — No Carry Forward: You must clear all 4 papers in a single sitting with both 40% per paper AND 50% aggregate. If you fail even one paper or miss the aggregate — even by one mark — you must reappear for all four papers in the next session. There is no exemption, grace mark carry-forward, or paper-wise clearing system.
Preparation Strategy for CS-EET October 2026
The new CSEET is significantly more demanding than its predecessor. With 75% of the paper being subjective writing, your preparation must shift from MCQ practice to structured answer writing. Here's how to approach the October 2026 attempt effectively.
Start With Accounting (Paper 2)
This is the brand-new addition and likely the most challenging for non-commerce students. Start with basics immediately — double entry, BRS, and depreciation. Allow 30–40% of your study time here.
Practice Descriptive Writing Daily
Papers 1, 2, and 3 require structured written answers. Practice writing 10–15 mark answers with clear headings. Handwriting legibility and speed will directly impact your score in a 3-hour exam.
Read Business News for Paper 3
The Economic & Business Environment paper requires awareness of the Union Budget 2026–27, RBI policies, and recent corporate law developments. Read a business newspaper or follow a current affairs app daily.
Focus on Contract Act for Paper 4
Paper 4 (Business Laws & Management) is OMR-based with no negative marking — attempt every question. Indian Contract Act carries maximum weightage in Business Laws (60 marks); cover it thoroughly.
Use Official ICSI Study Material
The ICSI study modules for the restructured CSEET are the primary and most reliable source. Coaching notes can supplement — but the official material is the bible. Download from icsi.edu.
Simulate Centre Exam Conditions
Since CSEET is now offline, practice in timed, pen-and-paper conditions. Attempt at least 3 full-length mock papers per subject before the exam. Getting used to handwriting under time pressure is essential.
✅ Preparation Timeline: For the October 2026 session — with registration closing 30 June 2026 — you have approximately 3 months. Recommended allocation: Accounting: 40% | Business Communication (writing practice): 20% | Economic Environment: 25% | Business Laws MCQ practice: 15%.
